Dashain is the most awaited festival by all age group people of hindu religion.The people of small villages,town and country as a whole have a different positive vibes during this long celebrated festival of Nepal.People who have moved away from the country to seek proper jobs,people living abroad, students studing abroad check Nepali calender many months before Dashain so that thet could spare time to and fly back to their home country to celebrate the festival Dashain. Even groups of other religions besides hindu residing in Nepal as Buddhist, Christians people feel the good vibes of Dashain as the whole country as a whole is inj rejoice mood in Dashian.
Dashain starts from the Sukla Paksha (Bright lunar fortnight) of the month of Aswin and ends on Purnima full moon. According to hindu religion, Dashain signifies two important events one is when goddess Durga fought with demon Mahisasur who had brutally tortured/ killed people and got victory over him on the 10th day of war. The second one is the day when God Ram ( reincarnation of lord Vishnu) and Sita returned back to Ayodhyaa after killing the demon Ravan who had kidnapped Sita. Dashain festival lasts for 15 days starting from Ghatasthapana the first day of Dashian when schools/colleges are closed for 15 days and government and private offices are closed for 5 to 7 days. On the day of Ghatasthapana a big round clay pot is placed in pooja room with mud and sand, then the seeds of barely, rice ,maize are sowed in the mud which is sprinkled with water. People play cards,fly kites mong family, relatives and friends. There is also a tradition of making swings with bamboo stalks in the open area at home or nearby, children and adults enjoy a lot swinging in the swing.The seventh day of Dashain is the significant day when Fulpati parade is held at Tudikhel ground and is observed by president, Government officials and other people.
